DataHaven knows that the value of your data is the value of your business. So, we have made every effort to store your data in the most secure offsite location possible. As you know, DataHaven CDP is both a local and offsite solution. Local protection is required for instant recovery, but offsite backup is required to protect against power surges, theft, and other major disasters. Only the best offsite protection will do.
Where does DataHaven store my data?
Your offsite data is stored at a secure facility in California. The facility is hosted by Equinix, the largest global network-neutral data center and Internet exchange services company in the world.
Who is
Equinix?
With facilities in 11 key markets across the United States and Asia-Pacific, Equinix is the leading provider of network-neutral data centers and Internet exchange services for global enterprises, content companies and network service providers, offering premium colocation, traffic exchange, peering and outsourced IT infrastructure services. More than 200 different carriers and ISPs now participate in Equinix IBX centers, including the world's largest IP backbone networks. Network and service provider customers include AT&T, WorldCom, UUNet, Sprint, SBC, KDDI, BT and Verio. Enterprise and content provider customers include IBM, Electronic Arts, Gap, General Electric, Google, DoubleClick, Hotwire, Microsoft, Sony and Yahoo! Equinix serves more than 1,000 enterprise class corporate customers across its network-neutral IBX centers in the United States and Asia Pacific.
What type of equipment and design do you have in place?
DataHaven has designed and implemented a world-class infrastructure to meet the needs of customers. The SAN environment uses SATA drives in a RAID5 configuration and multiple hot spares for ultimate local redundancy and safety. Servers have dual processors and mirrored boot discs share files, pointing data enterprise class NAS device for storage. The servers are connected by robust switches in high availability (HA) mode and a load balancer keeps the system optimized. All the equipment has redundant power supplies and multiple connections. This allows optimal transmission
of gigabyte speeds for Backup Data through redundant connections via Sprint and other T-1 providers.
How is the server environment managed?
Each IBX center is completely fitted with:
Redundant HVAC: To provide optimum conditions for equipment operation and minimize downtime due to equipment failure, the HVAC system provides appropriate airflow, temperature and humidity. Redundancy features provide additional protection for customer operations. Air-cooled package chillers arranged in N+1 redundancy configuration and backed up by generator supply is adopted to provide round-the-clock chilled water supply to the precision air conditioner units throughout the IBX center.
Fire Detection and Suppression: Multi-zoned, dry pipe, water-based fire suppression system with sensory mechanisms (sniffers) to sample air and provide alarms prior to pressurization and dual alarm (heat and/or smoke) activation necessary for water pressurization. Water only enters the fire suppression system in the event of two cross-zone alarms, and will only disperse in the event of a broken or melted sprinkler-head. Any water discharge will be sprinkler-head specific, which will limit the potential for damage caused by over-spray.
Flood Control: Built above sea-level with no basements, tightly sealed conduits, moisture barriers on exterior walls, and dedicated pump rooms; drainage/evacuation systems; moisture detection sensors.
Earthquake Protection: Location-specific seismic compliance. Structural systems meet and exceed seismic design requirements of local building codes for lateral seismic design forces. Equipment and nonstructural components, including cabinets, are anchored and braced in accordance with the requirements of the 1997 Uniform Building Code.
How secure is my data?
Very secure. In addition to AES 256 Bit Encryption, which is standard protection for all DataHaven CDP offsite data, the center itself is staffed with 24-hour security officers. Visitors are screened upon entry to verify their identity and escorted to their destinations by IBX security staff. A fully monitored "mantrap" separates the welcome lobby area from the main lobby of IBX proper. The shipping and receiving area are walled off from the colocation area making the mantrap the only accessible entryway. All access points are controlled and monitored with biometric hand scanners and motion-sensitive CCTV cameras. There is no better security system for data anywhere in the private sector.
What if the power goes out?
With Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) systems and emergency backup diesel generators Equinix electrical distribution is designed to power your systems, even during a blackout. UPS systems prevent power spikes, surges and brownouts while redundant backup diesel generators provide additional fuel to keep the data centre powered up in the event that public utility fails. The entire electrical system has built-in redundancy to guarantee continuous operation. The overall system is N+1 redundant, including each component within the parallel electrical systems.
Who is in charge of my data?
We are. As an internet security company, DataHaven takes data protection seriously. We are proud of the single vendor, end-to-end protection provided by DataHaven CDP, and we fully manage our own servers inside the Equinix facility. DataHaven Tech Support has direct access to the Server Maintenance team. In spite of this high level of reliable data management, remember that DataHaven employees can never read your encrypted data. Your data is safe and secure with DataHaven.
